Louie’s Kids on the Rachael Ray Show – Friday, April 18th!

April 16th, 2008 by Louis

We were so fortunate for the Rachael Ray Show to recognize the hard work being done at Louieskids.org. So as of Friday, April 18th we are under another national spotlight. Thanks to the amazing producers there at the show –and all of you, my “village” Louieskids.org is making it happen …one child at a time!

Without all of you this would have never happened. I hope you’ll continue to spread the word about Louieskids.org One of the kids in the piece is over 220 lbs and is only 14. He’s lost 40 pounds and for now is living at the boarding school just outside Asheville, NC. He was eating himself to death before his Mom mortgaged her home to get him to Wellspring Academy (formerly Academy of the Sierra-Carolinas). We’re cheering Kevin on in hopes that he’ll earn a spot at summer camp this year as a reward – and the sealing of his fate for a healthful life.

The other kid is Danielle. Danielle’s entire life has changed since Louie’s Kids started working with her just 2 years ago. Over 60 lbs later and with the self-esteem of 10 kids her age she’s a testament to what we are doing and the fact that it works. Her Mom tells us she raises her hand in class, first, she’s outgoing, energetic and an entirely different kid than she was when we first met her.

I saw your segment on Rachael Ray and cried all the way through it. I was an overweight child and developed an eating disorder because of the abuse I took from not only the other kids at school, but also my family. Seeing how you are helping these kids and not just telling them they must lose weight but also helping them to be happy with themselves really hit me. Keep up the good work, what an amazing tribute to your father.

The segment rocked! Sarah, Danielle is my daughter and Louie’s Kids truly changed her life. I cried also, because I know first hand what obesity can do to a child. Danielle has been dealing with this since first grade. As you saw, she is a work in progress but as confident as can be. Thanks Louis!!!!

The world would be a much better place for our gifts from God.If there was more angels like Louis. I am the mother of a daugther that is over weight, and blame my self i also am over weight had a surgery that took me from 337lbs to 98lbs & 14 days to live. She watch me eat then throw up 8 to 12 times a day.And picked up on my eating habits,I had to eat so many time’s a day to what I thouhgt was a surgery that was going to make me happy that only made me fade away right in front of my kids.Needless to say I had it reversed just in the nik of time to save me from death, but with in 2 years watch my baby went from being a healthy weight to a out of control eating habit that has put her at 14 to over 230lbs.The last thing that I ever wanted for her was to be over weight. And would give anything to make her healthy and happy with herself. She’s already gorgeous but how do i make her healthy when i’m the one that made her unhealthy? How do i make her a happy person again? I never imagined her as unhappy as she is inside i turned on her phone one day and her welcome note ” im worthless and stupid” i tried to tell her she’s not but yet she just wont listen to me. I am very interested in the Louis kidds program and you will hear more from me.

    Hi Louis,
It was so nice to put a face to your name!! I hope this show brings other opportunities to get your message out there. I feel so fortunate to have Kevin at Wellsprings. My heart aches for the parents of children less fortunate. How can we help them all? I know the pain of watching my son on a downward spiral towards death. Louis you are the angel God has sent to help save children in pain because of their obesity.
I hope Kevin and I can find a way to help other kids in pain from obesity in our community when he comes home. Your mission is such a great way to honor your dad. I’m sure he is proud of you and pleased that you are helping spare children from the pain he endured.
